GaN chargers have quietly replaced the fat plastic bricks that shipped with laptops. The catch is that advertised wattage is rarely what you get once a second device is plugged in. We charged a 16-inch laptop, a phone and a pair of earbuds simultaneously on every unit here, logged temperatures, and measured how fast each one refilled a dead battery.

Anker Prime 100W 3-Port GaN
The one to buy if you carry a laptop and a phone.
What we liked
+True 100W to a single port
+Stays under 45C under full load
+Swappable travel plugs
What we didn't
–Heavier than 65W rivals
The most consistent charger we tested — it never dropped a laptop below full-speed charging even with two other devices attached.
Look at total wattage first, then at how it splits across ports — a 100W charger that drops to 45W when a second cable goes in is not a 100W charger for most people. Prioritise USB-C Power Delivery 3.1 if you own a recent laptop, and check the plug shape if you travel.
Common questions
Is GaN actually safer than a normal charger?
GaN chargers run cooler at the same output, which is why they can be smaller. Any charger from a reputable brand with USB-C PD certification is safe.
Can I charge a laptop and phone from one port?
Not from one port, but most chargers here split power intelligently across two or three ports.
